The Guard Building was built in 1929 for the Union Trust Company to be a “Cathedral of Finance”. Architecture is a combination of Art Deco, Aztec, Native American and Arts & Crafts. At 486 feet and 40 stories, it was the second tallest building in Michigan when it opened and remains one of the largest brick buildings in the world.
